First NEBA Meeting – Nov 1, 2019

Meetings ·

New England Book Artists is a new, Boston-based group that welcomes artists, book collectors, historians, restorers & librarians.

The activities that we’re planning include: exhibits, workshops, field trips, visiting speakers, group critiques, and more.

Our first meeting was on November 1, 2019 at the Boston Public Library in Copley Square.

Marie Canaves – founding member led the meeting with introductions and discussions about NEBA’s mission and planning

  • Genesis of NEBA; need for a book artists group in our area to create community, collaborate on exhibits, teaching/learning/hosting/giving workshops, etc.
  • Clarity of purpose and organization are fundamental for the success of the group
  • Start slowly with 3 key areas of importance/interest and build from there
  • Establish a strong web presence
  • Thanks to Stephanie Stigliano, Cristina Hajosy, Ronni Komarow and everyone else who spread the word about the group!

Discussion

  • Identify the “heart” of the group
  • Name of the group:  New England Book Artists
  • Integrate a  30-minute “Show & Tell” time in the meetings; 5 artists will be presenting 1 or 2 pieces they will discuss
  • Schedule field trips at different days/times to accommodate more members
  • Moving forward, consider breaking up into sub-groups to work on different projects (exhibits, talks, workshops, field trips, etc.)
  • Does the group need to be formalized? Grow organically? Do we need a basic structure with “point persons” to get work accomplished?
