Dianne Dolan
BIO
Dianne Smith Dolan attended the Maryland Institute of Art and The Hartford Art School where she earned a BFA in painting. It was there she studied with George Mc Neil, Fred Wessel, and Stephen Brown. She holds a Masters degree in Art Education from Central Connecticut State University and has taught Art in the New England area for many years.
Dianne is a representational artist, who divides her time between Boston and Maine. She works in a variety of media, most notably, oils. While many elements offer inspiration, Dianne’s foremost concern is always with formal issues. A long time landscape and still life painter, she has become interested in artist’s books, and continues to explore that format in her work. Her work has been exhibited both locally and at the national level.
Dianne is represented by South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA, Galatea Fine Art, Boston, Ma, Pemaquid Art Gallery, New Harbor, Me, and River Arts in Damariscotta, ME.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My work is centered in my everyday life. It is a synthesis of human experience and perception. Color has always been a major focus. I experiment with color that defines my personal experiences with my subject matter.
I frequently use photographic images in my work. I crop and manipulate these images digitally, and combine them with under paintings and other nontraditional materials to express my personal point of view.
The Artist Book format allows me to continue this narrative in a more playful manner. I experiment with structures that allow me to merge image, narrative, and autobiography. It is my hope to further the dialogue by engaging the viewer in a more intimate way.
