BIO/ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Lucy Breslin began making books during the Covid lockdown in 2020, after retiring from teaching ceramics for 35 years at the Maine College of Art and Design. What began as a casual exploration through online courses in both bookmaking and paper marbling has now become a major source of enjoyment and investigation. While relatively new to bookmaking, she sees crossovers in how she thinks about her involvement in different art mediums. Her fascination with color, her awareness of historical precedence, her fondness for craft, and her attempts to render her understandings of what it means to be part of life on earth are central to all her art. She looks forward to being a part of a larger community of book artists.
As a ceramic artist, Lucy participated in over 170 exhibitions throughout the US. Her work was featured in 25 museum exhibitions, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Portland Museum of Art, Roswell Museum, Fredrick Weisman Art Museum (Minneapolis), Nevada Museum of Art, and Bellevue Art Museum. She was awarded several international residencies, including International Ceramics Center (Denmark), Banff Center for Art and Creativity. She also received many grants throughout the years, including a Fulbright Fellowship to Spain and has been a visiting at colleges and art centers throughout the country.
