BIO
I am a graduate of SUNY Buffalo where I majored in painting and printmaking.
After college I pursued a career as a potter creating production pottery for home and restaurants. After raising my family I went back to earn an MFA in Design from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. It was there I explored monotype printmaking and found my way into teaching.
For over 27 years I have been a professional printmaker and art professor teaching drawing, printmaking and design, at Cape Cod Community College. During this time I developed an interest in papermaking and book arts which I was able to develop into a successful Book Arts and Papermaking course. I enjoy the synergy between creating and teaching art. Currently I serve as Co-President of the Printmakers of Cape Cod a very active regional printmaking organization, which provides exhibition opportunities, workshops and student scholarships. In its early years I served as president of the Monotype Guild of New England. In addition I am a member of Art Synergies a group of seven artists exploring a range of traditional media and computer created art, this has been exciting and has given me an opportunity to integrate computer images into prints and books. As a participant in art exchange projects, I have exhibited artist books and prints internationally. Artist’s books provide a natural form to integrate mixed media and the varied processes of printmaking, photography and collage. I am primarily interested in unique one-of-a-kind books and look at each as a way to develop a time line or story. I am the mother of three adult children and three grandchildren and have lived on Cape Cod with my husband for over forty-five years.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Image making is a way to interact and reflect my experiences. I explore printmaking, book arts and papermaking developing various content about nature the figure and architecture motifs. I explore variation and sequencing and abstractly combine drawings and photographs to make visual connections. I often work in a series allowing ideas to grow and evolve. The images I make combine abstractly to create metaphoric associations as I explore processes such as woodcut, etching, transfer processes and lithography to create visual stories of memory, place and time.
Although I paint and do photography, it is printmaking which provides me with the richness to create content for making books. I work intuitively and responsively in each piece and investigate variations in composition and content to create books which are unique and one of a kind.
I hold a BFA and an MFA in painting and printmaking and have been teaching drawing, design and printmaking at Cape Cod Community College for over 26 years. I have enjoyed an ever-inspiring interaction between creating and teaching art. I am a member of Art Synergies a group of seven artists exploring a range of traditional media and computer created art, this is an exciting avenue for learning additional processes to incorporate into books and prints. Currently, I am the Coordinator of Visual Arts at Cape Cod Community College and the Co-President of the Printmakers of Cape Cod. I have resided on Cape Cod with my husband for over 47 years, and I am inspired by the sea.
