BIO

I taught art and photography for 33 years at a public high school, retired for 3 weeks and then worked for 12 more years for a non-profit virtual school, writing curriculum and training teachers to teach online. To keep my sanity over the years I worked in fibers, clay, photography and printmaking but I keep coming back to books. I have studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Mass College of Art, the DeCordova Museum School, The Worcester Art Museum School, The Art Institute of Chicago and Art New England at Bennington College.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Most of my work are small books that live in handmade boxes. I think this gives them an element of surprise but it also gives them a safe place to live. The pages of the books are made up of individual images that stand alone but also relate to each other. I like the intimacy of working small with hand printed papers and found objects. I love the idea of re-purposing materials and I know that some of the organic matter that I use may dry out or decompose. Because of the delicate nature of my work I accept that my books have a precarious place in the world.
